To celebrate this great anniversary, “Missioni Don Bosco,” the Salesian Mission Office in Turin, has produced a video story dedicated to the first missionary journey to Argentina and to the current Salesian houses in that first mission land.
The first Salesian Missionary Expedition was not just a journey across the oceans: it was the concrete expression of Don Bosco’s dream—to bring to the young people in every continent, the fullness of life founded on love, education, and faith. The ten Salesians who left Turin for Argentina were young, full of enthusiasm, and carried with them the educational method of their founder.
As several Rectors Major have often emphasized, the Salesian Congregation today would be very different if its founder, 150 years ago, had not given it such a strong missionary spirit, sending a significant number of his best members to the other side of the world. Since that day, however, the Salesian mission has spread to 137 countries, becoming one great family of educators and missionaries committed to transforming the world’s peripheries into places of growth and hope.
To learn about, celebrate, and renew that missionary spirit, this new video has been created. Enriched with historical images, sacred Salesian sites, the stunning landscapes of Tierra del Fuego, and testimonies from Salesians, educators, formators, and youth leaders, it conveys all the power of that first departure which gave rise to a worldwide mission. It is a journey through time and spirit, rediscovering the origins of a dream that, from Turin, has crossed cultures and generations.
A story that invites the viewer into the heart of the Salesian charism—a bridge between past and future, showing that Don Bosco’s dream has never stopped, but continues to travel, to speak, and to generate life!
